Upminster is a suburban town in northeast London and part of the London Borough of Havering. Although technically in a London borough, the town itself has the pleasure of countryside to north, south and east aspects which includes the Thames Chase, a forest measuring almost 25,000 acres. This increasingly admired town comprises a number of shopping avenues based around a main high street that offers many amenities and facilities. Although peripheral to London, the town’s transport links are first-rate; being served by Upminster station on the London-Tilbury-Southend Line and the London Underground, in London fare zone 6. There are branch lines to Romford on the main East Coast line into Liverpool Street and another which includes a station at Lakeside, one of the biggest retail centres in Europe.

An area of interest is the Upminster Windmill which was built in 1803 and is widely considered to be one of the very best remaining smock mills in England. Thames Chase community forest was established in 1990 to improve landscapes in East London and South Essex. It aims over 40 years to plant 5.5million trees and turn 30% of the area into woodland. It is a landscape for wildlife, work, recreation and education with a wide selection of outstanding schools at both primary and secondary levels.
